The AMD CPU space is quite exciting, with many chips offering decent performance, despite their low price. They really started a revolution in the field, stopping the hegemony of Intel, and quickly started carving a space for themselves, until they themselves became the hegemony, by simply offering better products.
Today we have two AMD processors, which use the same architecture, despite being branded as different generations. These CPUs are also from different price brackets, so it will be interesting to see how they compare to one another.
You can take a look at our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, where we showcase the best laptop processors.
Today we are comparing the AMD Ryzen 3 5300U against the Ryzen 5 4500U.
You can find more information about both CPUs here: AMD Ryzen 3 5300U / Ryzen 5 4500U
In the 3D Rendering benchmark with Cinebench 20, the Ryzen 5 4500U scored 15% higher. The same CPU was also better in the 2D Rendering tests with Adobe Photoshop, where it finished first with a lead of nearly two seconds, which is a massive gap.
Both laptops use the same iGPU, the RX Vega 6 (15W). The unit inside the Ryzen 5 4500U performed 14%, 15%, and 9% better in 3DMark Fire Strike, Unigine Heaven 4.0, and Unigine Superposition, respectively. As we always test different devices, the performance of a CPU or a GPU can vary from device to device, which we attribute to cooling and the speed and size of the RAM that it uses. In case you’re not aware, integrated graphics rely heavily on the system RAM since they don’t have their own VRAM.

The Ryzen 5 4500U performed better across all of our tests, which was to be expected, as it is placed ahead of the Ryzen 3 5300U in the AMD pyramid. Still, it is commendable that the Ryzen 3 5300U reached that level of performance. We would advise you to check the prices of laptops with both chips and to make a decision for yourself. It would be even better if could snag a laptop with a Zen 3-based U-series chip, which would be the best possible case.
